The World Research Travel Conference (WRTC) 2024 is taking place from November 3 to 7, 2024 at the SPICE Convention Centre in Penang, Malaysia. This groundbreaking event is Asia's first global conference dedicated to research travel, bringing together over 2,000 delegates from around the world.
The conference is jointly organized by the World Research Travel Organisation (WRTO), with support from Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB). Themed "Opportunities, Synergies, Sustainability," the conference aims to explore key issues in international research travel, with a focus on cross-cultural exchanges, sustainable development, and the future of the research travel industry.
Key highlights of the conference will include a keynote session, six specialized forums, a special inspection of a travel research base, and one-on-one business matching sessions for international travel research partnerships. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in thematic forums, witness the awarding of international cooperation bases, and enjoy the Malaysian Gourmet Night, culminating in a Gala Dinner titled "Research Travel Night."
The event aims to foster the growth of the global research travel sector by promoting the training of international research travel professionals, the development of research travel hubs, and innovations in curriculum systems. A major focus will be on strengthening the integration of global research and travel networks, as well as the educational and economic benefits that research travel brings to various regions.
"Research travel is an innovative approach to education, allowing individuals to experience different cultures while fostering knowledge transfer and mutual growth," said an event spokesperson. "In recent years, there has been growing global interest in study tourism, and WRTC 2024 provides an important platform to discuss new opportunities and future directions for this dynamic sector."
The conference showcases Malaysia as a key destination for research travel, in line with the country's "Malaysia Truly Asia" branding. Through various activities, the event will highlight Malaysia's potential as a hub for research and cultural exchange.
