15-25pc rise in tourists projected in Sabah

According to State Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Environment Datuk Christina Liew, based on estimates for this year, Sabah's visitor arrivals are expected to rise by 15 to 25 percent the next year.

In response to Datuk Dr. Yusof Yacob's (GRS-Sindumin) inquiry about the number of visitors to Sabah for this year and 2024, she stated, "However, the figures are subject to revision based on the current global economy, number of flights into Sabah, and also tourism trends."

Christina stated that taking into account the most recent data as of September, which stands at 1,883,794 compared to 1,190,513 last year, for the same period, the expected number of visitor arrivals this year is 2.2 million, creating an income of RM4.5 billion.

According to her, there were 1,287,279 local guests and 596,515 foreign visitors.
