PAHANG:

A colonial-era hill station in Raub called Fraser's Hill will be visited by the Pahang government as a result of "unpleasant experiences" that social media users have documented.

Leong Yu Man, the chairman of the State Unity, Tourism, and Culture Committee, announced that she will travel to the hill town to check the claims.

"I am aware of the press reports and social media posts. I'm going to go there shortly to see how the structures and amenities are doing.

"I want to interact with the local community and hear from stakeholders regarding Fraser's Hill while on the trip. I had scheduled a trip previously, but it had to be canceled," she remarked.

Leong stated that she required more information before making any pronouncements regarding rapid improvements to Fraser's Hill.

A TikTok user last week posted an 18-second video describing her trip to Fraser's Hill. She claimed that in stark contrast to the owner's description of the property, which she had reserved online.

Others who had been to Fraser's Hill agreed with her assessment, saying that things there were "poor" and possibly have gotten worse as a result of the extensive movement control orders during the Covid-19 outbreak.

However, Fraser's Hill is not for everyone, according to Nik Jassmin Hew, chairman of Persatuan Alam dan Warisan Bukit Fraser (PAWBF), so visitors should moderate their expectations.

"People looking for entertainment will be let down. Fraser's Hill is inherently a special location for individuals who appreciate the outdoors and offers peace.

"PAWBF (Fraser's Hill Nature & Heritage Society) has been working assiduously to persuade the authorities to maintain the hill's management.

According to her, "Recently, we were able to persuade Raub member of parliament Chow Yu Hui to raise the issues in Parliament, and as a result, the issue received a special seating in Kamar Khas (Special Chamber)."

Every time reckless news broke, according to Nik Jassmin, Fraser's Hill took the brunt of it.

Recent claims that Fraser's Hill has become a ghost town have had negative impacts, she claimed, including numerous inquiries and cancellations of hotel reservations.
