Flydubai, the Dubai-based airline, marked a significant expansion in Southeast Asia with the launch of its inaugural flights to Penang and Langkawi on February 10, coinciding with the Chinese New Year’s first day.
This grand event not only celebrated the new direct connections but also introduced the airline as the first to offer daily services from Dubai to these destinations, enhancing its Southeast Asian network to include four locations across Malaysia and Thailand.
Upon arrival at Penang International Airport and Langkawi International Airport, the flights were greeted with the traditional water cannon salute, underscoring the warm reception by local authorities and highlighting the importance of this new route for regional tourism and connectivity.
Sudhir Sreedharan, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at flydubai, emphasized the airline’s commitment to accessing underserved markets and enriching its network, expressing excitement over introducing travelers to the diverse experiences that Penang and Langkawi offer. This expansion aligns with flydubai’s goal to provide more opportunities for exploration within the beautiful Southeast Asian region.
The launch date’s significance was further enhanced by the Chinese New Year celebrations, offering tourists a unique cultural immersion in Penang’s festive atmosphere. YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang’s State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, expressed enthusiasm for the new direct flight, anticipating it to become a key international route contributing to the region’s appeal to a broader audience of travelers.
