PENANG:

The Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) continues to make waves in the global marathon scene with its latest achievement. This year, PBIM 2024 is poised to become the longest bridge run in Southeast Asia, traversing the Penang Second Bridge, also known as the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge. The marathon, which has grown into a prestigious international event, will host over 20,000 runners from around the world, crossing this iconic bridge from Aspen Vision City and finishing at the same location.

Diverse Race Routes for All Runners

PBIM 2024 offers something for everyone with its thoughtfully designed race routes:

  • Full Marathon (42.195km): Runners will experience the entire stretch of the Penang Second Bridge, with scenic views and ample hydration and medical stations along the route.
  • Half Marathon (21.097km): A shorter, yet exhilarating route that provides a substantial challenge while still allowing runners to enjoy the bridge's majestic views.
  • 10km Run: This route offers a more relaxed pace, perfect for those seeking a less demanding but still immersive experience.

AIMS Certification Highlights Global Recognition

The Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon is proud to be one of only two marathons in Peninsular Malaysia to receive AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) certification. This prestigious acknowledgment places PBIM alongside the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon and highlights its adherence to international standards. Additionally, there are four AIMS-certified marathons in Borneo, further underscoring the growing prominence of Malaysian marathons.

Exclusive T-Shirt Design and Fashion Show

This year, PBIM has collaborated with Brooks Apparel to unveil a special marathon T-shirt design. The official marathon attire, including a running vest and finisher T-shirt, reflects the vibrant culture of Penang and the energetic spirit of the event. A fashion show showcasing these designs will take place on 21 September 2024 at Klippa Mall, Batu Kawan, offering participants a preview of their commemorative gear.

Unique Medal Designs to Celebrate Achievements

Finishers of PBIM 2024 will be awarded meticulously crafted medals, featuring designs that symbolize perseverance and achievement. Each medal, categorized for the 10km, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon events, includes a distinctive four-leaf clover motif representing the Batu Kawan bypass/flyover. These medals are set to be cherished keepsakes for all participants.

Inclusive Participation with VIP Sponsorship

In a historic move, PBIM 2024 will include twelve visually impaired participants, sponsored by Aspen Group as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. This sponsorship, covering ten students from St. Nicholas' Home and two VIPs, Darren Yuen and Helen Davis, underscores the marathon's commitment to inclusivity and will inspire many with its message of unity and determination.

Support and Sponsorships Enhance the Event

PBIM 2024’s success is bolstered by its diverse group of sponsors, including title sponsor Aspen Klippa, official apparel sponsor Brooks, timing sponsor Seiko, medal sponsor Emico, and several others. Special collaborations, such as the Merdeka giveaway with Shokz and Brooks, further enrich the event.
