The International ministry said on Monday, September 23, that introducing the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for international visitors entering Thailand was delayed.
 
Originally slated to go live in December 2024, the ETA system was created to expedite visitor immigration processes.
 
The ministry did state that a launch date has not yet been set because cooperation with pertinent entities is still in progress.
 
Through the ETA system, visitors from 93 countries eligible for visa-free entry can register online before coming to Thailand. 

They can then use the QR code they were given upon registration to enter automated immigration gates. Thailand will eventually switch to an electronic visa system that includes ETA.
 
The ministry stated that while it was still dedicated to putting ETA into effect, it was now working with other government organizations to finalize the specifics and make sure the launch went well.
 
Travellers are urged to watch updates from the Foreign Ministry and the Immigration Bureau for the latest information on the ETA system's launch date.
